2012 is an exciting year for us at the Seneca Historical Guild as we celebrate 150 years. This is a special time for a number of reasons.
This year marks the 150th year of the MJ Hogan Grain Elevator, also known as Armour's Warehouse. Built along the Illinois and Michigan Canal in 1861 -1862, the grain elevator still stands. It's the oldest grain elevator still standing in Illinois. This is certainly something to celebrate! Some of our members are volunteering to become site interpreters so that we will be able to share this historic treasure with everyone. Check out our Events page for more details.
Our group is also excited to celebrate 150 years of our town's history. We are in the process of writing a historical book to celebrate Seneca's Sesquicentennial in the year 2015. This is a very exciting project, and anyone who is interested in joining us is encouraged to contact us.
