Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Seneca Historical Guild was creating new displays in the Seneca Area Heritage Museum. In the interest of the health of our members, we decided to close the museum to all but a couple of people. Since we are now in Phase 4 of the governor's reopening plan, our members are just now getting back to creating those displays. Therefore, the museum will remain closed until further notice. However, if anyone has any questions or research needs, please contact the Guild and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you for your patience! Please contact the SHG via email... senecahistory@gmail.com or by calling the museum and leaving a message. 815-769-5077 |
The Seneca Historical Guild cordially invites you to be a part of the restoration of Seneca Station by purchasing a commemorative brick that contains your engraved message for perpetuity.

Seneca Historical Guild -
Preserving Seneca's Past

Thank you for joining us in our quest to Preserve Seneca's Past.
The village of Seneca, formerly named Crotty after our founder, Jeremiah Crotty, was incorporated in 1865. Our town was created during the construction of the Illinois & Michigan Canal for which Crotty was a contractor.
The Rock Island Railroad and the Illinois River also supported the creation and business of our town. Seneca is most known for its contributions during World War II when Chicago Bridge and Iron operated the Prairie Shipyard. 157 Landing Ship Tanks (LST) were built here.
Seneca has a rich history, and the Seneca Historical Guild wishes to preserve and share this past for many generations to come.
